Like I said earlier, I think we're just really breaking this down into a semantical argument. Given the wide scope of what is considered "JRPG" vs. the narrow scope of what is considered a "WRPG", it hardly seems fair to me to compare gameplay diversity because once a WRPG steps out of the genre's bounds a few feet, it gets tossed into an entirely different genre.

Man, this conversation really makes me wish I kept more of my old RPGs.


But you don't understand. You keep saying my definition is overly broad, but I'm never leaving the realm of games with a statistical increase system and a level of customizable stat increase. Whereas what you keep saying should be included in the WRPG genre doesn't exit that parameter. I'm applying the same qualifier to both genres. The difference is just that there are so many more JRPGs developed each year, leading to more diversity.

Also, Level 5 is definitely not lacking originality.

I understand that but going by your definition of RPG, the WRPG genre balloons considerably, which brings us back around to what started this conversation in the first place...

Anyway, I realize that Level 5 is a great developer but that's a DS game. I specified earlier that it would be great to see a high-budget game come out of left field and rock the genre like KOTOR did. Not some mid-to-low budget game or a portable game.
