They do.... Final Fantasy? Dragon Quest?, heavily inspired by European mythology. And are you kidding me? LoD was extremely Japanesy, there is nothing western about it. It was literally medieval power rangers with alittle ff7 thrown in there for good measure. If  anything the battle system at time was the biggest turn off as it wasnt traditional and we know that western gamers are more open to change than the Japanese.
