The thing about numbering, while it is kind of boring, people know where they stand. PS4 is newer and more advanced than PS3 because it has a 4 in it. And it's the most advanced because there is no PS5. And they know it's the home console because PS3 was a home console.
Playstation is also the best name over all. Wii has no meaning and sounds and looks silly. Xbox also has no meaning and sounds too serious. Playstation is the place where you play and that means fun times. It's the best name ever invented for a game console. Sticking a U behind it may have reduced sales a bit but it would still be selling a lot better than Xb one and better than Wii (?). Obviously if Sony used the U it means Nintendo would have gone for something much more sensible like Wii 2.
