Does the average consumer know the PS4 versions are generally better? I doubt it. Don't confuse people like us with the average consumer. They don't go online to observe the visual nuances. I know you'll find that hard to believe.

Why do you just assume that people that are about to spend $400+ on a piece of electronics just throw their money at the cash register blindly? Today, in the era of internet and youtube, all the info is only a click away.

I know, odd right?

PS4 vs X1 graphics isn't Wii vs PS360 graphics. They visual differences aren't as obvious. They don't notice the nuances like you and I.

"Notice on the PS4 version the charcters face is a little more clear, well that's becuase of 1080p! Also there are less jaggies because its using 4x anti aliasing instead of 2x. That completely changes the game experience."

See, I completely agree with that point. If you say that 70% of console buyers don't even know what a pixel is, you probably wouldn't be far from the truth. But people do read opinions from informed websites and users and accept them.

Trivial, but true life examples can be mirrored when buying smartphones or laptops. People have no idea about megapixels, but when given two of them, but one has a 21MP camera, and the other 14, they don't need to know about megapixels, but they know which is better. When given a choice between 2 or 4GB of RAM, they know which is better even if they have no clue what RAM is or what it's used for.

Same applies here, they don't need to look at screenshots or compare videos. When they read that PS consistently has more "peas" and "fps"es than XO, they don't need to understand to know that PS is better for the same price.

As for the Gamestop clerk example, of course my supposition is that all parties are truthful. And when asked would not deliberately misrepresent the features to sell a worse console because of personal preferences.

And, in the end, I absolutely refuse to think I am better than an average customer just because I am a member of a gaming forum. I refuse to belueve that an average person just throws money away without getting informed. Most people who work for their money get informed.

people blow money all they time, are you kidding me? you think a parent is going to care about 1080p 60 frames? Do you think a person that just wants a console for sports games is going to care about connecting the console online and all that other stuff. Seen those examples with my own eyes. maybe informed is the wrong word. The average consumer just does'nt care about such things as rams, etc. some people would deliberately try to sell you  a console because of personal preferences. A worker tried to sell me a wiiu at best buy,for example. I told him I did'nt care and did'nt want to know anything about it. I personally think your giving the average consumer to much credit, but that's just me.
