The original question is "Are the PS4 versions of multiplats really better?"

The answer is simply yes.

The much more hand wavy question that is being asked is, "Is it enough of a difference that it should matter which version of the game you buy?"

The answer is, it depends. If, in your situation, the only difference between buying the game on the ps4 or the xbox one was that the ps4 version is slightly better resolution (even if you don't have a tv that can render the difference), then you should still purchase it on the ps4. Because there would be a reason to, but no reason not to. If your choice is more complicated (say you have friends on a particular network, or you already own one of the consoles, or you're already knee deep in internet arguements and you don't want to hurt your ego, ect...), then you will have to weigh the pros and cons of choosing a version and decide what is best in your situation.

Yes, that was the real point of the OP.

My mistake really, as I always fall for the part where I assume people will read the OP before commenting.

I also agree with your reasoning to a point.  I will say, that if a majority of the multiplats going forward have very minimal differences, even the "buy it on PS4 anyway" really won't matter.  It seems that in reality, while playing these games, that most people would not be able to perceive the differences.  Yes, they are more obvious when looking at screenshots or the comparison videos.  But, if you are playing the game, they are truely imperceptible.  Sure, there were a couple of games at launch that were way more obvious due to the much larger gap.  But, that seems to be dissipating on the multi plats.

Time will tell of course.

Again, it doesn't matter how little the difference is.... If that is the only thing left to sway you either way then it would make absolutely no sense choosing the one that is minimally worse. It's like saying that hey, I can direct deposit $60 into your account right now, or I can deposit $61, your choice. Is that $1 going to make a difference in your life? Probably not. If someone was subjectively looking at your life, would they notice the difference in your choices because you got that extra $1? Again, probably not. But still if you had the choice, and the only difference is that one will give you that extra dollar, then, there is no reason to choose the $60 deposit.

You are basically saying that since the extra $1 isn't really that much in the scheme of things, it doesn't really matter, and it really shouldn't sway your opinion either way. That makes no sense at all.
