Only a third of steam users run their games at 1080p

Well the "PC Master race" is actually just a fairly small percentage of PC gamers :P
I'm pretty sure the people who just play a game of hearthstone, some Runescape or a game of League of legends don't need monster PC's and 1080p graphics.
