i still feel like 2014 is extremely lackluster. i commented to somebody else about 2007 because thats the equivalent year from last generation. it had way better games, and more of them. none of them had to be remasters either. things are just different now. maybe we can just agree to disagree.

This is the part where what you say doesn't stand up though.  In looking briefly at wikipedia (not the best source, but based on your taste I figure it might work out here) there are around 250 games that were released across all platforms (handhelds, PC, xbox, playstation, nintendo, etc) in 2007.  In 2014, PS4 is releasing over 100 games alone.  Between the other game systems, and the PC, that tells me that there are going to be more potentially worthwhile purchases now than there were back then.  Also, with the indie scene (which you seem to instantly discredit as shovelware), you are getting many more unique experiences - if you are willing to try them - than you were back in 2007.

yeah youre right about the indie scene, and if you didnt mention it at the end of your post here, i was going to. the lineup for 2014 is beefed up tremendously by indie games. i know a lot of them are great, i was going to download shovel knight pretty soon. indie games shouldnt be discounted as shovelware, but when you look at big retail releases, i feel like these huge companies are just not doing much of anything.
