nice read.
I think reviews are a "good" thing in case that you don't know a game but you might want to buy it, it would help me decide wether to go and buy it ... or wait and rent it first orhave a friend buy it first :P
But I also think reviews are getting a little too powerful in the sense that some people takes them waaaay too seriously now, and in the end ... it's just an opinion. There have been "rises" on the internet about some reviews ... specially some of the ones in Gamespot ( the ones that come to mind are: Twilight Princess for Wii, Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank for PS3 and some others) but in the end ... if you like a game the review shouldn't bother you that much if you are really enjoying it
I think that it makes some people feel better that fact that a game they have and like is universally praised and if someone says something bad about it they jump to its defense ... something that doesn't make any sense 'cause everyody has their own tastes in games and their own opinion about games...
Even games that get low scores ... like Mario Party 8 and Carnival games, "hardcore gamers" can say all they want about how bad those games are, but hey!, people keeps buying them .... by tons, why ?, because they really enjoy the game and they didn't give a damn about the review... they just wanna have some fun with it..
anyways ...thanks for the article Ferret
