It's based completely on a semantic basis. Had it been "The Last of Us: Game of the Year Edition", no one would care. But since it's called "The Last of Us: Remastered", haters come out of the woodwork with "why are they remaking a year old game? This is just a cash grab. blah blah blah" Had the content been identical and it was a PS3 release, this game wouldn't have made a peep (like I said: just a GOTY version of the game). But because it's on PS4 and is gonna help boost sales a little (because this version is targeted at PS4 OWNERS WHO DIDN'T OWN A PS3 AND THEREFORE DIDN'T GET TO PLAY THE ORIGINAL RELEASE), the haters have to find a reason to, well....hate it. In this case "remaking a year old game", when it's just a re-release with bonus content. |
Beating a dead horse here but........This gen has already had way too many remakes of last gen games. TLOU and GTA 5 are the biggest offenders because they are planning on selling more DLC, so these arent even proper GOTY releases. If it was for your bolded statement they could just offer it through PSNOW. The success of this, GTA 5, Tomb Raider and its ilk will result in more rereleases and likely less new games. The fear is rather than fill in content gaps(for console owners)/profit gaps(for publishers) with lower budgeted(which doesnt mean bad) games they will just release nostilga games from last gen upscaled to 1080. Much as many have complained about the future implications of the EA access pass becoming a success, people are complaining of the current gen remaster trend.
There are shit rereleases/gotys (Naughty Bear, Tropico 4) that have happened but no one complained cause no one bought those games in the first place. This gets more attenion because this forum is mostly Sony and wont shut up about this game. You dont see a new GTA 5 thread every day around here so you will see less complaints about that and more abotu TLOU. There is already a thread about TLOU reviews and here we are with another TLOU:R thread.
Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.
