Yes that is a console

actually, when you break it down, yes.

Fairchild being the creator, it would be like "Sony", "Microsoft" or"Nintendo" precursor names today.

Then Channel F,  F being for Fairchild, and Channel because it putput a VHF/UHF tv signal that allowed you to tune in your tv to the same channel as the console, so with all of that in mind, the name is just fine.
