So what is up with the names this Generation?

People make up names for any console. No matter what MS named it there would have been insults. Same thing with Playstation 4 and all the insulting names it gets.

 

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I know that all consoles get insulting names, but part of the effectiveness of a pun is how much of the original material you can keep; the closer the pun is to reality, the funnier, or more insulting depending on your perspective, it can be. A lot of Playstation's 'trash-talk names' are a bit on the weak sauce side, like Poorstation, Pauperstation, etc, etc; they involve taking a big chunk of the first word and changing it completely, so there is little similarity to the original. Ironically, the closest pun WOULD be 'Gaystation,' but obviously that name's stupid for the reasons that folks who use the word 'gay' as a negative descriptive without a hint of irony are jackasses and should be fired into the sun. xP

But in the case of many of the examples I cited above, you don't have to change MUCH to get the nickname. In several, the Xbox One or Xbox 720 name is completely intact, with little bits added at the end to achieve the desired effect. Or compacting the two words into one, like the Xboned. In others, it sounds very similar out loud, such as Xbox Done.

Let me put it this way; an example of a BAD Xbox One pun would be 'Lawl, the Crapbox One.' That nickname is weeeak sauce, because I'm basically taking away the X and tossing in a random insulting word. That's not a pun, that's just lazy writing.

Right now, the best (and currently only) really GOOD Playstation 4 nickname I can think of is the Delaystation 4, in the wake of Driveclub and co. getting pushed so far back in terms of release date. That one's pretty funny. x3
