Arrogance, thats the cause. by the time every company was about to release their third console they had their heads so far up their asses that they started believing their own shit. they thought people would buy their console no matter what (sony actually said this). and they want to start dictating what happens in the market. and each in every time one of the competition comes along and knocks them down straight on their assses.

This right here. Arrogance.

The curse of the third is for real though and not all companies come back from it.

But BK is right on the money with his post, you make a console and it does well, you make the next and it does even better and exceeds your expectations. Unfortunately, you start to think that you can dictate what happens or doesn't and that you are immune to everything else. And then it comes back to bite you.

Nintendo has to be the biggest offenders. I can kinda understand why the terminated their partnership with sony, but the PS brand will not even exist at all if nintendo didnt stab sony in the back. I mean beat that. Nintendo created their very own worst enemy. And if that wasn't enough.... they completely dropped the ball with the whole crat vs CD thing.

Then look at sony, all sony had to do to emphatically win the last gen was to release the PS3 at $400. Sony could have come n at $400 if they made the blu-ray drive external (like MS did with HD-DVD) and with their year delay they could have even put 1GB of ram in the system and just had an all round better system. But noooooo..... they had to put blu-ray in the box and of course lets not forget "you will have to get an extra job to buy one".

Actually Sony also brought MS as their worst enemy by refusing to work with MS.
