Plain as day truth. It doesn't mean that a 'cursed' console can't be fun, or that they will be absolute failures, but it's pretty clear that each major 3rd home console gen has been a decline from the previous. One can also note that each 2nd gen was the most successful. Add Atari to the list : Pong console was a solid 1st gen success. Followed by 2600 which owned the market for years and popularized carts, then a myriad of failures and bankruptcy. It seems that the strongest can weather a 3rd gen disappointment, but others tailspin into irrelevance.
