Yeah, I assume he's not serious, but if he is, he is wrong. I know many people that have wanted to live in (granted all live in Canada, but one does have American citizenship, so I will count that), and I personally wouldn't mind going to Russia. I also really want to go to China (a country that still claims to be communist), and while I wouldn't want to live there permanently, I wouldn't mind staying a year or two there. I have no idea why he is talking about Mexico, though. |
I have family who lived behind the Iron Curtain, in Romania for the entire Cold War and that was a state that offically by itself and internationally was known as a Marxist-Leninist state, for someone to just claim they believe a state is communist is downright ignorant and insulting towards people who had to live in those times, which in Eastern Europe it's still a touchy subject. That era is over, you even go to North Korea now for a trip, nevermind all the post-communist states many which are a part of the Schengen Area.
There are many reasons why someone could choose to live in Russia or China, there's pleantly of job opportunities around the world now and people who have that choice probably live pretty decent lives. English teachers in China are treated pretty well and live pretty decent lives. I'm pretty content with Canada, the advantage in the West is you have a higher chance of a higher standard living as a whole compared to developing countries, but that doesn't mean the good life only exists here.
