I just am more in the boat that they need to not invest super heavily in the division and take large financial risks with it. At this stage in Sony's recovery process they need safe bets, and guaranteed income. The company litteraly can't afford to have anymore big losses. They simply need to streamline mobile and not take any risky ventures with it. Keep producing what is selling in their mobile line and cut everything that's underperforming. |
That market is incredibly congested with far bigger brands vying for the general control and the scraps that fall off after. They have a market for their products, yes, but is it worth it in the long run to fight against the phone giants in Samsung and Apple, and then also compete against the other side availabilities like Amazon, HTC, and Nokia?
I'm more worried that their billion dollar red venture from from the PS3 era is going to cause them to turn stagnant and fold in on themselves because they don't have the capital (and junk status) to really risk trying things that could move them out of debt. They can continue to milk what is profitable, yes, but any sudden market shifts could then cause serious issues.
I'm not advocating that they kill it just yet, but that they need to be seriously aware of what their money is doing.
