You don’t need Xbox Gold for EA Access unless you play online

EA has some good news for you regarding EA Access: no double subscription on Xbox One unless you want to blast people online in Battlefield 4.

“Any Xbox One gamer can join EA Access and take advantage of the benefits of membership,” said a company representative to Joystiq. “In order to connect to multiplayer gameplay on the Xbox One platform you will need a subscription to Xbox Gold.”

The service in the US runs $4.99 a month and EA has confirmed a £3.99 monthly price for the UK.

An annual membership in US will run you $29.99, but a yearly option in the UK has yet to be announced, per MCV.

A beta is currently running for a selected few, and it’s slated to roll out to more customers in the coming months.

Sony said overnight it had turned down EA Access for PlayStation 4 as the company felt it wasn’t a good value for its customers.

Thus, the reason EA announced it as an Xbox One exclusive yesterday. Maybe if enough PS4 player want the service, Sony will negotiate something at a later date. It wouldn’t be the first time a console maker added or redacted an option or service after enough people spoke up.
