I voted for the original PS gen but it wasn't just the gen itself. It was a company called "Squaresoft" that made that gen so awesome to me. Sadly they have since become a nonentity called Square-Enix. I still replay many Squaresoft games from that gen.
TC just sounds like he grew older lol. 16 and complaining? At first I figured it was some 30 year old guy at the very least till I read the comments. It may be better to start searching for a new hobby.
DLC can be good and bad. SOme companies e.g. Capcom, Namco Square-Enix are definitely doing it wrong. Expansion-style dlc however, are a welcome addition IMO. The other thing this connectivity is great for is patches. Back in the day, if a game had gamebreaking bugs, there was no way to fix it without buying a reprint. Nowadays, you just download a patch and call it a day.

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.
It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
