Games are less magical because you've seen practically every story type in exsistance. It's become more and more harder to find a game that is "new". In the sense does something no ones ever done. Usually games use stuff from past games now. No matter how small. Because there is so much people can come up with, till its all done. You can make a game that features a women only cast, and one dude. To flip the general norm, in a video game. But it isn't really OMFG, amazing of an idea anymore.
Giving stuff up for some a poor reason is dumb. Do you hate EVERY game that comes out now?
