They were acquired through studio acquisition, so to pat Sony on the head for creating them when they had zero input into their being seems a bit farcical. Nintedo R&D is far superior when it comes to creating and inventing IPs. Their input into the gaming World is still more significant, anybody can takeover existing brilliance if they sign the right cheques. |
You know Evolution Studios is outright owned by Sony dont' you? They purchased them in 2007. However I also understand they owned the IPs making them Sony's regardless of who developed them.
Or are you saying that Nintendo didn't infact create IPs like Eternal Darkness, Geist, Golden Sun etc? Even Mario Sports games were made by 3rd parties (Next Level Games/Camelot).
Hell, Camelot even created one of Nintendo's characters.

Most of Nintendo's games were developed by Nintendo. They actually staff their own developers. Most of Sony's games are published, not developed by Sony.
There is a vast difference and that's what he was talking about.

The majority of Nintendo's new IP over the last 3 gens weren't developed by them though :p Especially on home consoles. For the most part they either just publish or partially assist in development (and on rare occasions fully co-develop, as is the case with Smash bros 3DS/WiiU).
It's the same for both Sony and MS. It shouldn't be a point of criticism. These games likely wouldn't exist without their funding after all.
Sony do seem to have a much bigger focus on 1st party these days though. Back on the PS1/2 they mostly published/funded/assisted with 3rd party titles. Now the majority of PS4 titles are either being fully co-developed or made by one of Sony's own studios.
