Will the 3DS be a controller option for the Wii U Smash?

So "Wii U" is an option on the 3DS Smash Bros. main menu.  I always wanted the 3DS to be a controller option for the Wii U version.  Does this confirm it?  We've known for a while now that there will be some interaction between the two versions, but it has not been specified exactly what this will be.  Is there any other info on this?  What do you think?
