There's a difference between self publishing and having to meet specific requirements to get your game onto a platform. A publisher is just a middle man who will only choose to publish something they think will create a big return, this actually just stifles more interesting concepts being released.

The problem with a lot of steam releases is that there is no/limited quality control measures in place the same applies to the Apple App store and Google Play etc. SCEA/SCEE both have their own functionality requirements before they will allow a game onto their store, regardless of whether it is the studio that made the game or a publisher wanting to bring that game out on PSN.

Therefore the stuff you don't like on PSN that's indie hasn't got quality problems, you just plain don't like that content. Acclaim and THQ put out some right dross in their times, particularly in the 8 and 16 bit days despite being huge players in the industry at the time.

It's just a matter of time. Wait till they get used to dev kits and the flood gate will open.
