Companies want to have a better connection with their consumers and gamers and they try to do it with asking what gamers want, Phil spencer is asking frequently what gamers want in the next updates and some things have been added.
Also I enjoy dark souls and the community is very vocal about their issues or what they would like to see to change in the game 'Op weapons/bugs' for example and those get changed in the update...
Gamers/consumer will feel more respect for the company for doing it.
Look to BF 4, it has become one of the most hated games because gamers are asking for updates and EA has been pretty bad listening to their fans...
