About 21 million 8th gen systems have been sold. Looking only at PS360, there are over 160 million of those. That means that only about 13% have upgraded, or less than 87% haven't. My friends are in the vast majority. In fact, I guess I'm the one who bought in and am that 10% of early buyers.
No one is saying the PS4 is doing bad. Some people are so sensitive.
At the same time, the PS4 commands about 40%+ of the market both to date and on a weekly basis presently. I would call that a solid lead but not dominating. In this industry I'd want to see at least 50% market share before I declare dominance.
But the larger point is that 21 million systems is still irrelevant when looking at the larger market. We have already seen a good e3 and MK8 shift interest and buying of Wii U by 50% or more. If One drops the price, does some crazy marketing or has an amazing new title come out, it's not a stretch to say it could go from worst to first very rapidly and eventually have a majority of the potential 85% of the market that is left to buy.
