Gears of War 3 wasn't a Masterpiece.  It had the lowest Game Ranking's score of any game in the series other than the incredibly mediocre Judgement which only scored in the 70s.  The Masterpiece and Overall Game of the Year for 2012, the year Gears 3 released, was ThatGameCompany's Journey exclusively on the World's Finest Seventh Gen Console Sony's Playstation 3.

Gears 3 was a masterpiece though. It was the rediculously polished, content packed, culmination of the work done on the first two games. And then you mention that you never even played it lol.


Gears 3 wasn't a Masterpiece.  It wasn't nominated for any of the major 2011 Game of the Year Awards and it continued the Gears' series fall in Metacritic and Game Rankings scores that occurred with Gears II and has continued right through the series latest mediocre effort Gears of War Judgement.

 

Gears III has lower Metacritic and Game Rankings scores than the following Playstation Exclusives Uncharted 2 ( higher than any Gears game ), The Last of Us ( higher than any Gears game ), Little Big Planet ( higher than any Gears game ), Metal Gear Solid IV:  Guns Of The Patriots ( Higher than Gears, II, Gears III, and Judgement ), God of War III ( Higher than Gears III and Judgement ), Journey 2012's Overall Game of the Year, and Uncharted III that was nominated for Game of the Year Honors in 2011 including the VGA's Overall Game of the Year Award while Gears III wasn't.
