Justification for including elements of any kind is needed, and that works the same way for this type of thing. If it's not thrown and works within the confines of the game, there's no reason to "look past" or ignore it. You don't hear statements like this about Mass Effect or Dragon Age. >_>

I agree with the principle here.  I have nothing against mini-games to enhance another otherwise boring experience.  Say for example, DanganRonpa, when you have to do various stuff in class trials (like Hangman) to figure out an otherwise straight forward scenario.  That's fine.

But that's the difference.  Something like say, the head-to-head duals in DanganRonpa is there to broaden the experience.  I'm sure they don't include it to try and entice people who like rhythm games in.  Whereas mechanics like this are literally just to entice certain crowds from Japan in.  The game can still work perfectly without them included (see: Mugen Souls & Mugen Souls Z).

Perhaps this will be the exception to the rule.  But so far all I've seen is examples to the contrary.

P.S. Where did Mass Effect & Dragon Age include fanservice mini-games?  I haven't played them.
