Dispite it's high pricetag it's managed to pass 10 million and will very likely pass the halfway mark of the Xbox 1's installed base before Christmas. This is without taking into consideration the affect price cuts will have on 360 sales in the future. The future is looking very bright for the 360, lets not forget that :) |
It'll also pass half the lifespan of the original Xbox this Christmas don't forget. It's a bit too early to determine the overall success. It's done well so far but has the 360 simply been burning through the Xbox fanbase quicker or is it really reaching out to a new market? Time will tell. BTW, yes I know MS claims only half of current 360 owners were Xbox owners but MS also claimed to have broken 10 million in sales last Christmas and says the failure rate of the 360 is 3%. I trust the first statement about as much as I do the other two (which are known to be false).
This is especially since the 360 has only sold a few percentage points better in the US at this point than Xbox. It's doing better in Europe and Japan (very relatively there) but then it launched a year before its Playstation competitor not a year after. Will that continue with the PS3 out? Again, time will tell. It'll definitely help if MS gives the 360 a 5 year life-span instead of 4 years like the Xbox.
