The source said CIA analysts were still not ruling out the possibility that the troops were actually eastern Ukrainian rebels in similar uniforms but the initial assessment was that the troops were Ukrainian soldiers. There also was the suggestion that the soldiers involved were undisciplined and possibly drunk, since the imagery showed what looked like beer bottles scattered around the site, the source said." |
Erm how? Geo-Eye 1 is still the highest resolution sattelite pointed at earth, resolving upto 41 cm, beer bottles are not that long. http://www.theverge.com/2014/6/14/5809628/us-government-signs-off-on-sale-of-ultra-high-resolution-satellite-imagery
This is the max possible atm, beer bottles, identifying uniforms lol.

Maybe they meant spy plane images.

Idk, but when I was a kid I received a Soviet kid's journal called 'Technika-molodezhi' (can be translated "Tech for the teens", it was AMAZING).
And I remember an article with a satellite photo of a man lying on a grass, and on the photo the time on his clock was clearly seen. And it was unclassifeied inmformation 25 years ago, so I think this kind of tech advances very much.
Also - this is an example of photo from Google. I think American military have something better in their sleeves!
