Most times the weakest console ends up being the most popular.
PS2 was weakest, but more successful than Xbox (strongest)
Wii was weakest, but more successful than PS3/X360 (both stronger)
DS beat PSP
3DS beat Vita
Now the anomaly of PS4 being strongest (compared to WiiU or XBO) is also being most popular. Good for Sony and good for gamers.
