They DEFINITELY won last gen. Especially considering 360 is still outselling both Nintendo and Sonys last gen consoles to this day (according to NPD). Plus 360 killed in software sales as well.

This is where Microsofts big problem at ever outright winning a gen lies. If the US (and UK) had been a reflection of the global market, 360 would have dominated but MS are really struggling to gain traction in other EU territories and especially Japan.

Without a global appeal it's very difficult to outright win a generation. They did a bloody good job with the 360 though.

The other problem I had with MS last gen is that they had the perfect opportunity to put their foot on Sony's throat and made the outcome of last gen definitive. However, they got really complacent and allowed Sony to slip past. The 1st-half MS did really well, but the 2nd-half MS had me scratching my head. All of a sudden, MS abandoned the core in favor of Kinect while Sony keeps churning out exclusive after exclusive. While the Kinect did well commercially, it was only a temporary solution. It didn't do well in terms of lasting appeal and reputation as proven by X1 sales and MS's removal of the new Kinect.
