Just for fun, I decided to try scaling a Wii game. I always wished that Nintendo would make the Wii U do this, because the original resolution is pretty low, especially if you have an large HDTV. The Wii didn't quite output widescreen properly in 480p - just stretched it out, so these are just approximations.

I'm gonna have to disagree that it's "hardly a difference." The screenshots below are scaled to 1920x1080 (because this is what your TV is doing) and there's a large difference. I'm gonna just link to them so they don't get resized in the window - just open in a new tab to see full rez.

The bottom three are with anti-aliasing. I really really really wish more games used AA @ 720p as the jaggies are still noticeable (Mario Kart 8, I'm looking at you, though 2xAF would have helped, though it's not as noticeable as the jaggies):
