I used some config tweaks for Rage and installed it on a SSD to avoid the texture streaming issues. I actually bought my first SSD at the time when Rage came out. Unfortunately, my GTX 560 Ti 2GB wasn't able to run the highest possible texture quality (16K), you needed 3GB. |
Yes, I have the same kind of issues (GTX650) that won't allow me to push textures higher. But it actually runs well on my GPU because it's already an older game. Wolfenstein has more problems with texture loading. There are some bugs to, sometimes Wolfenstein will start with bugged textures (like PS2 level textures) and I have to restart the game and it will start with its normal textures. What I don't understand is that the textures don't look that good to justify this kind of performance, specially when games like Crysis 2/3 and Metro LL perform well with visibly better textures. I think they should fix or drop the megatextures.
About the maximum texture quality, when I try to use it, the game drops to 2 or 3 fps. But if you actually wait some minutes, they finish loading (or buffering) and the game rises to 60fps. Of course, it's not viable because this giant loading will happen everytime you change scenarios. But it makes me wonder if they aren't doing something wrong there.
