From everything I read, when Microsoft acquired Nokia, they also gained 25k employees. To think they were not going to send hatchet men in, and restructure a company that they acquired to to align with their vision is being silly. They effectively cut Nokia's employees in half, getting rid of mostly redundant jobs. The bigger story is where are the cuts coming from for the 5.5k? If this was doom, and gloom, their stock would not have enjoyed a bump. All companies over time get too big, and need to trim the fat. On that note, good luck to all those affected by this, and hopefully all find work soon.
