XB1 is more appealing in the American market now, but it doesn't mean it will stay that way. They clearly aren't capturing nearly as much of the teen/adult market as they want, and they sure as hell won't capture children and casuals. If Nintendo cashes in on the amiibo they will catch almost all of that demographic. Just because a culture that's 95% lactose intolerant isn't buying your ice cream doesn't mean they don't like dessert. Nobody has offered the Japanese much that's to their liking outside of handhelds this gen. They didn't just give up, they just aren't appealed to. The first console to actually land a major JRPG is going to prove the Japanese will buy consoles. It may be Sony or Wii U, but It won't be the XB1. What people are really overlooking is the amiibo. It lets third parties cash in on the smart toy market without having to make their own hardware. If you think third parties don't care about cashing in on something that's grown so rapidly and has so many children and adults interested, you're thick. The amiibo may just be what brings much needed support to Nintendo. Also, Halo won't do as well this time around as it did on the 360. It's on the inferior system with the smaller install base and there are now more and better alternative for the FPS Genre. The series has been on the decline since Halo 3. And while the Nintendo titles may not individually sell in the order of magnitude that Halo and Gears will in the US, they will collectively sell enough WW to stay compatitive with Microsoft's first party games. And before you say "Nintendo games will only sell to people who already have the Wii U" you better have a good reason why that won't apply to the XB1.
I'm well aware that Metroid hasn't been officially announced yet, but they did talk about planning console and handhed versions of it. They said they'd like Retro to work on it, and Reggie was wearing a Metroid pin after DKC came out. The pins he wears usually provide hints to upcoming titles. Retro has been working on a top secret game since wrapping up DKC, and I really doubt Nintendo was going to double down on karting by putting all of Retro on DKR2. And don't act like Mario Galaxy's successor isn't eventually coming. Every Nintendo console gets its own flagship mario title. NES: SMB, SNES: SMW. N64: SM64, GC: SMS, Wii: SMG, and whatever the hell they're giving the Wii U. No Super Mario 3D World isn't the big Mario of the Wii U, its part of the 3D spinoffs, Nintendo loving to put the plumber in tons of the damn things. |
You can claim the deals change all you want, I will keep referencing actual evidence we have that it won't matter. It didn't matter last gen, yet it will matter this gen? Weird. Also, the PS4 version of Destiny will sell more BECAUSE of the exclusive deals, same as Watch Dogs. You seem to think the deals are reached because of a sales difference. The deals are reached and they can create a sales difference. Otherwise there'd be no reason for MicroSony to have to pay publishers for these deals.
Amiibo will be good for Nintendo. I have long wondered when they would finally cash in on this lucrative toy add on element to games that Skylanders utilized. But Nintendo already has the children. Their problem is the younger crowd they had with the Wii is older now and don't want a diet of just Nintendo games. That's where Nintendo will always fail to MicroSony until they change their 3rd party situation. It's why the Xbone has outpaced the WiiU by over 1.5 million since launch and why it will continue to outpace it and pass it.
Comparing these two consoles, people put too much emphasis on 1st party games. It isn't a situation like the PS4 vs Xbone where library wise the first party stuff is virtually the only difference. Yeah Nintendo has some awesome games coming. As a WiiU owner I am looking forward to Captain Toad. Yoshi looks awesome. Even the Mario level editor game is right up my wheelhouse. The thing that prevents me from playing my WiiU more though is after you have tackled those great Nintendo games, there's jack shit to play on them, unless you enjoy Lego games or Disney licensed trash, with very few exceptions. And in the rare case it gets one of the big 3rd party games, why would I play it on the WiiU when it's vastly superior on my Xbone? And not a tiny gap like PS4 and Xbone, but a large gap where the WiiU version is closer to the PS360 games than next gen? That's the issue facing the WiiU.
Your Halo downplaying is still illogical. So it won't sell 8 million+ like on 360? Cool. So what WiiU game will? Oh, ok. None will, but Nintendo will sort of "gang tackle" Halo with multiple games. Good thing MS has multiple good looking games coming this year too. If you can add up the totals of individual WiiU games you can certainly add up Xbone games as well. And in the Xbones case there is also a slew of AAA 3rd party games coming that the WiiU has no answer for. It really won't even be a fair fight.
