The fact that the PS4 is selling 35K better than two other consoles that are selling terribly is not really relevant, it's not selling well at all. The Wii didn't dip below 100K until March 2012, nearly 5 and a half years after its release. What this means is that this generation was a dud.

Given that VGC always undertracks PS4 by a noticable margin and that it has PS4 at only 4-2k away from 100k , i think its pretty safe to say PS4 didnt drop below 100k.

And given that PS4 has no 'wow' factor like motion controlls and no exlusive big hitters so far, I'd say it's pretty amazing it was ahead of Wii for such a long time

The other thing to keep in consideration is that the Wii sold a fairly significant percentage of its overall unit sales off the backs of Wii Sports and Wii Fit.

I don't think it's much of a stretch to say that many of those consoles were purchased by consumers who never bothered to buy any other games before they stopped using their Wii altogether 1-2 years later.

The PS4 isn't going to score any of those types of sales; it will depend upon overall catalog rather than one or two crossover titles that non-traditional video game consumers will feel compelled to buy.

While I wouldn't go so far as to say the PS4 will be the Wii of the 8th gen; it's far too early and it simply lacks the widespread appeal of the Wii to the non-traditional extended audience, but barring any major disruptions in the overall gaming market, the PS4 will be the long distance runner to the Wii's sprinter.
