thats what i have gathered from my experience. people dont want to pay 300 dollars for a wii u. id say a 50 dollar price cut for wii u would do more for their sales (percentage wise) than a 50 dollar price cut for ps4. of course this is just a guess, based off experience. people dont mind a 400 dollar price tag for ps4. they do mind a 300 dollar price tag for wii u. i think thats just the way it is. |
ok, I'll bite. Though its hard to believe that you are really only talking about market share here.
- No argument here.
- Ok, PS4 has done nothing, compared to what exactly? What has nintendo done? Release games? What about MS, release games and come to price parity with PS4? Well, first off they are all game consoles and you will be surprised that releasing games is what they should all actually be doing. It will also surprise you to find out that on the PS4 alone, more games have been released and sold in the 7 months it has been on the market than the entire 20 months the wiiU has been on the market. Shocking right?
- Silly bet really. But hey... thats your opinion. Guess we will see.
- You seem to be mixing up legs and what it mains to sustain sales. Legs basically means that whenever a new batch of people buy a console, they would most likely pick up that particular game. It doesn't mean that that particular game will make people buy the console. Thats a sales boost. And the reason nintendo games have legs, is cause all nintendo has are nintendo games. So anyone that buys a wiiU, has very little to pick from and will naturally just go and buy the only games available for it, which are nintendo games. The only thing capable of sustaining sales is a price drop, cause that affects every single person still on the fence and would increase the monthly baseline sales of the platform.
- Who are these huge amount of people you speak of? More so, who are these huge amount of people that will only uy it for $50 less? This is wishful thinking at best.
- So lets see, in 7 months a $400 console (while doing nothing as you so nicely pointed out) has sold around 8.5M consoles as opposed to a $300 console that has been out for 20 months and sold 6.5M. Common sense should tell you which of these two consoles are in higher demand or translation; wanted more. But somehow, you feel that $50 is the tipping point and why the wiiU is not selling as well as it should? What proof besides your whim do you have to back that claim?
- Its not just destiny though, the PS4 has become the multiplat console of choice this gen. That is why all multiplats sell the most on the PS4. Again, just look at NPD stats for proof of that. So that means that CoD and AC will all sell better on the PS4. That means that people looking to buy a new console this year for those games will most likely get a PS4. Especially riding off the destiny momentum. In addition to this sony does have some exclusives coming out around that time too. You may find this hard to believe, but the PS4 will be under more christmas trees than any other console this year. Momentum and word of mouth kinda does that for sales.
