Even at higher resolutions it still doesn't struggle a whole lot ... What's making it hard is the fact that it will be CPU limited in a lot of scenarios so getting a more powerful GPU isn't exactly the ideal solution. What a PS2 emulator would mostly depend on from GPUs is a higher bandwidth seeing as how the 4MB embedded memory wasn't a slouch clocking in at 48 GB/s which would indicate that it was a beast at the time for fast read/writes to the framebuffer and it's faster than the RSX in this respect also.
