If you subsidize something, you get more of it. I find it deeply offensive and immoral that some of my hard-earned tax dollars are given to people to buy KFC and Taco Bell, or go to a liquor store and buy Funyuns or Ben & Jerry's with their EBT card, and then use their cash to purchase tobacco or alcohol. That is gross abuse of a system that was originally intended to only be used to help people who were in dire straits and needed a temporary leg up so they weren't starving to death. You would not believe how many people walking into grocery stores are buying junk food, ice cream, drink mixers, candy, etc with their EBT. It is meant for people who literally can't afford groceries, not to allow people to eat junk food, contribute to their obesity, and enable them to not work harder to make a better life for themselves or their families. People who DON'T abuse food stamps, and actually use the money appropriately, should be outraged at all of the abuse that calls into question the entire system. Why is there not more outrage? It is maddening.

Oh, and did you know that in certain states, like Michigan where I live, there are now EBT cards with cash allowances, which means you can go to an ATM and WITHDRAW CASH, at which point what little control there was over the use of the funds is then completely gone, and you can literally use it on whatever you please. 

Don't watch any any programmes about the welfare system in the UK then. All welfare here is paid in cash directly to people's bank acccounts :p
