Sounds good to me.
Although, I've been thinking about some of the criticisms fans of the later games make and, honestly, I can understand a lot of them. Now, to be clear, I don't share their feelings, but I got to thinking about it and it occurred to me, with the power of today's hardware, I think that both old-school and newer fans could be accommodated.
I mean, let's face it, the reason they opted for the pre-rendered environments back in the day is because the hardware at the time simply wasn't powerful enough to render detailed 3D environments. But that's no longer a problem. So, what if they were to make the game in full 3D but create two gameplay modes? You could have a classic mode (tank controls, camera angles, etc) for people like us, and an over-the-shoulder mode for fans of the newer games.
Now, one thing I wouldn't want to compromise on is the "less-is-more" approach. It would still have to be a survival horror game. Stealth... conserving ammo... more anticipation of combat than actual combat, if that makes sense. So, perhaps it would still be less appealing to the more action-oriented fans, but at least they wouldn't have to contend with a camera/control scheme they don't like.
I don't know. It's just a thought. The thing is, there's no longer any reason we can't do both. Back when the original series came out, sure, it wasn't possible. But the technical barrier is gone now. It would be perfectly feasible to create an RE game which at least has a control scheme for both old fans and new.

Oh, yes please! That would be awesome! Can you imagine a next-gen version of the Nemesis stalking you from one area to another? Damn!

Maybe not officially, but there are fan projects out there. Here's one I came across a while back. I don't know if it's actually available to play but someone made an RE2 "Remake" of sorts using assets from The Darkside Chronicles. It actually looks pretty good, though much of it does use the over-the-shoulder approach...
I won't post them all here. If you're interested, you can see the rest on his Youtube page...

*Sound Of Rain said: Plus, it's not needed as I think those games are great fun even today. |
Oh, they are! But still, official remakes of 2 and 3 would be sweet!
