My favorite 3D Mario is Super Mario 64. 

I haven't played much 2D Mario but I guess I'd pick Super Mario World from my limited time with it...

For 3D, Super Mario 64 is the clear winner (although Sunshine is the only one I don't consider excellent, all others are sooooo good).

For 2D, it's a battle between Super Mario World, Super Mario Bros. 3 and New Super Mario Bros. U
