I dunno, in Tekken there is already high replay value in every game including purchasing costumes with in game currency, theater movies, art and more. You couldn't really put a free to play maneuver on a game with over 40+ characters. Devs will demand compensation somehow. Microsoft is getting away with it with Killer Instinct because they were never finished with the game and used the free to play business model to aid the development of the game. Tekken is far more established, but the barrier of entry is lower even though the asswhipping you can recieve by experienced gamers is huge.

If you read my last post. You will see that the "Free to Play" thing is really just a hook. If you look at how I described it would work, you will notice that there are a ton of opportunities for namco to get "compensation". Especially with tekken be an established franchise.

If at the time tekken 7 is released there are up to 20M PS4 owners out there, you can pretty much gurantee that at least 5M of them will download the game sinceits free anyways. And that number will increase as the install base grows. That number will be also much higher than those willing to just shell out $60 for the game. If 1M of that number spends as little as $10 per month on tokens then the game is making $10M every month. And this isnt even including ad revenue of their cut from tournament matches that will no doubt draw a lot of players since real money is at stake. It literally will become the most profitable tekken game ever.
