tbh the most money I EVER spent on a gaming PC was 2008 and was 660€. The PC can still play modern games better than PS3 or X360.
And it was just 660 because i wasted alot of money on useless stuff like PSU with cable management (80€) NZXT case with window+blue lights everywhere. Scythe Mugen CPU fan (even tho the bundled cpu cooler would be sufficient. Accelero S1 GPU cooler with 2 additional Scythe Sliptream 800 fans (also all 3 things completely unededed)
2 case fans and a very big harddrive.
a AMP! edition GPU (overclocked = more expensive)
Oh yeah and Corsair Dominator 4GB DDR2 1066 (which was twice as expensive as average joe's 633 or 800mhz RAM)
Without all that optional super silent stuff or with the superfast RAM the whole thing would have been below 500€
