It's like if Boca Juniors lost 7-1 to Olimpia, which would then proceed to play a final against River Plate. Boca Juniors' supporters wouldn't cheer against their biggest rivals, they would support Olimpia, despite the humilliating defeat.
People wanted Brazil out on first round only for the fun factor. A football potency AND the host nation failing to reach the second round would certainly be an amusing event for every non-brazilian.
