Nintendo revived the industry
Sega provided competition and stabilized it
Sony broadened it
Microsoft fills Segas role now, down to the online play you give MS credit for. Sega actually had their own pay to play online network long before XBL

^This...ecsept I would say Nintendo broadened the market quite a bit more than Sony with the Wii, the casual market was almost completely untapped until the Wii. They more than revived, they saved the industry and set standard practises that are still followed todaythe help keep it alive even in this saturated gaming world.

Gaming was growing up with or without Sony...N64 had mature games as well as Sega systems.

My two cents...though don't know if it is worth that (But I did grow up during all of it sept for the time of the Atari, I evn remember playing the 3DO which was really kewl for the time)

Yeah I guess I would agree with that considering the 360/PS3 are going to eventually sell close to 100 million each. Just a dramatic increase in the amount of gamers thanks to the Wii. Of course they don't seem to be coming back yet to the WiiU. I agree that Sony doesn't deserve any credit for growing games up either, it had been that way on PC's and of course it was going to come to consoles, all those gamers who grew up on Nintendo and Sega were bound to become adults.

Nintendo has a bizarre 3rd party relationship that prevents them from really competing with MicroSony now. Its like their platforms are a place to just play Nintendo games with a small sprinkle of 3rd party thrown in. Where as strong 3rd party is vital. I don't think this is an element Sony created, it existed before Nintnedo started fucking up.

3DO was awesome. Owned one and loved it.
