I have a 2010 82" Mitsubishi Diamond DLP and a 2013 60" LG Passive 3D Smart 240hz Trumotion LED.  I like both of them for different reasons, but yeah bigger is better FOR SURE if the room size, acoustics, and setting is right!  I wish I had gone non3D on the LG and gotten a 70" or 75" instead.  The 3D gaming is awesome but I don't really use it enough to justify it.  Also if you drink it the 3D makes you feel like you're going to barf.

You seem knowledgable.  What I want is a big (75" or larger) television that is thin, but have little to no interest in Smart TV or 3D or other aspects.  Have not been able to find such a television, do they make them?

When you get up to that size I am not sure if they actually make them without 3D and smart currently.  Vizio and Samsung both make really nice 80" LED's, but I would highly suggest just waiting for 4K if you are in the market right now.  They are supposed to be just over the horizon with more reasonable prices that are actually worth dropping the cash on...and I bet they will have some huge ones.  Also, some people might disagree but I would steer clear of Sharp AQUOS.  They don't look good and have mediocre features.  Some companies like Sharp and Panasonic that used to be stellar in the Plasma TV area, are not the same today regarding quality and quality control with LEDs and others.  Also read up on Hz ratings and check reviews.  Generally speaking low Hz rates and no smoothing equals bad for gaming and sports and other high speed viewing.  Not ALWAYS true, but generally.  In other words if you are going to drop some thousands in 2014 or later, don't get a 120 Hz TV.  Also no matter what CALIBRATE.  Either pay someone to do it or (better-->) buy the Disney WOW Calibration disc the day you set up your set.
