Even if Xbox is unprofitable for MS, I doubt they'd ever fully let go. They could always spinoff Xbox into a separate company/joint venture with another technology or entertainment company.
I always thought Comcast would be a good partner for that. Xfinity + Xbox -- there's something catchy there marketing wise. Xboxes, games, and entertainment all on a subscription basis might be the way to not only increase the XOne userbase, but also kickstart interest too. Brilliant thing about that is you trick customers into thinking its cheaper by advertising the subscription cost, but not the lifetime cost. Ex "Get an Xbox One for only $99!" ... T_T ... a month...
