There aren't many consoles that are actually backwards compatible.  And there are reasons for that.  

I don't know, but most of my consoles are backward compatible ( ps1, ps2, ps3, wii, wii u, ds, etc.. )

Yes, but most of the precedent gen were backwards compatibles.
