This is what happens when you have a bunch of separate departments, each one doing their own thing, yet you force integration under one big umbrella. It becomes a bloody mess. When I worked with Microsoft, I hated how everything would be "Xbox" on the surface but with so many things not actually integrated under the hood. Documentation was all wrong, too, with just about everything flagged as obsolete. Half of what we worked with was labelled "LIVE" and the other half "Windows Account". The Microsoft footprint is so massive that it would take hundreds of man-hours to get everything switched correctly, yet they seem to rebrand constantly. I hate that.
Windows gaming is such an after-thought. Calling it "Xbox" on PC just made it feel even more so.
