I'm from Argentina but I'm not that into football. Mind to explain why so much hate between Brasil and Argentina? And also why does everyone on every website hate Argentina so much?! I've been reading "[The following opponent] will surely destroy Argentina's sorry ass" since the beginning of the WC in, like, everywhere, yet in my country I've asked people that knows a lot about football and they're positive about their predictions and not just for blind faith so it makes no sense to me; the rest of the worlds talks about us like if we were a complete failure of a team but then on the opposite side people in my country is optimist and we kept winning until now. A proper explanation would be really appreciated.

Brazil and Argentina once fought a war over Uruguay. Also historically Argentina was the richest south american nation by far. It prospered while Brazil was stuck on the military dictatorship that abolished the Empire. It has gotten better now, but it is argued a sort of inferiority complex from those times has made the casual relations between the two a bit sore even today. Some might tell a different tale though. That is what I accept as explanation.

As for the Argentine squad being not very liked... I don't know. A lot of people dislike Messi because he's that good... but maybe it's more reasonable that people cheer for the other squads the most, instead of directly shunning Argentina.

So, in short, people uses football as a way to demonstrate superiority over a complex created over an historic fact that has no connection to sports at all whatsoever?

"Hey, look! We won a match against a team who represents a country with whom ours has had political issues in the past and arguably has no significant relevance nowadays! That'll teach them!".

Sometimes I don't understand the society's general consensus at all
