ok, well, one, this isn't an mmo. Sure it may have some mmo qualities, but this is an fps first and foremost, an RPG second, and mmo would be a very distant third.
two, It obviously doesn't operate under a mmo model. It is operating under a retail game model. 60 dollar game, two expansion dlc packs. No free to play bull crap, no subscription crap.
Third, this game has way more money put into than any console mmo has had.
Four, this game is way more hyped than a console mmo has ever been.
Five, I have freaking played the game and it was freaking AMAZING!!

I just think console gamers are different from PC gamers. I like to play new games. Ive never played a game online for more than a month or two.
Sure there are the COD and Halo crowd, but Im not sure theyll ditch those games or split their time between them and Desitiny.
Also, are you sure theres no micro-transactions?

pretty sure, yes. Unless you consider the two expansion packs micro-transactions.
online gaming is one of the primary things people do with consoles these days, unless you are on nintendo consoles I guess... Still, all signs point to destiny being a huge success and having a lasting impact. Perhaps the game doesn't interest you, and thats fine, but it has a pretty large fanbase already and it hasn't even released yet. By the end of the gen, I wouldn't be surprised if it is more popular than call of duty.
