Yet several games hs reached it, like Forza 5, Killer Instinct and the upcoming MCC for example. I Think is is mainly due to laziness, incompetence or design choice when they do not reach/aim for 1080p/60fps. Also, we see in games like Ryse, that resolution is only part of what make a game gorgeus since that game is, in my view, the best looking game out there, coming in at 900p/30fps.

Sorry, but Halo 2 is not going to be 1080p, 343 has already confirmed that they are having issues reaching that resolution due to rendering the game twice at the same time to switch between "classic" graphics, and the enhanced version on the fly.

In any case the games that ARE hitting 1080p on Xbox One are less graphically intensive than games running at 1080p on the competition's console.  I find it odd that people are still arguing about this (often with incorrect assumptions about how graphics actually works!).  The cold hard fact is that Microsoft, emboldened by the idea of "taking over the living room", and the success they had with people using the 360 for streaming video, designed a set-top box instead of a game console.  There is nothing "wrong" with their design, but they never intended the main resolution to be 1080p.  From the start, they were going to name the new console the "Xbox 720" to highlight it's 720p resolution!  (Go watch the movie "Real Steel" if you don't believe me)

Now that they are selling a stripped down "Kinectless" version of the Xbox One, and marketing it JUST as a game console...now we can see it's weaknesses come to the fore.  They opted for less raw horsepower, choosing a lower end GPU...and then opted for cheaper memory as well.  Now, you can see that, late in the game, they KNEW that they had an issue with performance...hence the ESRAM cache being added to try and mitigate the issues with slower RAM...and they also increased the clock speed on both the CPU and GPU right before launching (factory overclock).

We can debate whether 30fps or 60fps is preferable in games all day long...or argue about whether a human eye can discern the difference between 782p, 900p or 1080p.   But that really doesn't matter...the PERCEPTION in the market is that the Xbox is less powerful...and that perception is backed up by facts every time a new multiplatform game is released.

So now what Microsoft has to do is convince millions of potential customers that none of this matters, and that the very best games are available only on their console....and here is the BIG problem!  Microsoft just doesn't have enough exclusive games to matter to most people.  Over 90% of all of the games released this generation are going to be multiplatform...and THOSE games play better on the "other" console!  For the rest, the titles that ARE exclusive to Microsoft only appeal to a small segment of gamers...titles like Halo, and Gears of War...good games...but still lacking the diversity of experiences that the competition is bringing to their exclusive lineups.  It also doesn't help that their tentpole franchise, Halo, isn't coming out with a new game this year...just the remaster...and the new "Gears" hasn't even been formally ANNOUNCED yet!  All we have for many of the titles Microsoft is leaning on is pre-rendered CGI from games that are just NOW beginning production!

In short, Microsoft has an uphill battle facing them.  The big question is if they have the ability to pull through the next couple of years...which, make no mistake, are going to be rough...or, will shareholders finally lose patience with the money pit the Xbox division has been SINCE INCEPTION and decide to spin it off or kill it off completely.   Microsoft HAS shown, however, a tenaciousness in their "Devices and Services" division...even when their products fail horribly in the market, they still keep plugging away...Surface, Windows 8, Windows Phone...none of these products have great sales, or much mass market appeal...yet MS keeps making them, even when they lose millions (or billions) of dollars...so the future might not be totally bleak for Xbox loyalists.

One thing is certain, however, it's going to be an interesting show to watch!
